These timber frame plans are drawn by professional timber framers and are made for someone who wants to build their own timber frame. Following the same plan style used in the work shop of Gibson Timber Frames, there are elevations of the timber frame and individual piece drawings of all the parts in the timber frame. The timber frame saw horse plan and the timber frame garden shed plan are good projects for someone wanting to try timber framing and the plans for the larger timber frames are for someone with some basic timber frame experience. The timber frame joinery is based on the square rule layout system - the traditional timber frame style used in 19th century North American timber frames. These plans are in PDF format and will download to your computer. The plans will print to scale on 8.5" x 11.5" paper.

Engineering
These timber frame shop drawings are not stamped by an engineer.
Because each building project has different conditions, a unique review and stamp is required for every timber frame project.
These timber frame shop drawings do provide joinery details, spans, and timber sizes and should be sufficient for an engineer
to review the timber work. In addition the engineer will require other details including but not limited to:
the foundation plan, insulation plan, location, and building use. The Timber Framers Guild website is a place you can source an engineer in your area.

This set of shop drawings uses traditional mortice and tenon timber frame joinery and is a great size of timber frame to learn the basic cuts.
The roof is a shed roof design, so a reasonably quick build. All the drawings will print on 8.5" x 11" paper and will print to scale. There are piece drawings of every piece in the timber frame as well as orthographic drawings. This is a great timber frame to be used as an instructional project for teaching the basics of timber framing to students - it covers a lot of joinery but is not too big to handle in a class room with students.
Teaching package for the 6 x 10 Timber Frame Wood Shed

This teaching package requires the students to use the included orthographic drawings to complete the dimensions on the individual pieces drawings. This encourages the student to visualise in 3D what the plans show in 2D. This is a real world skill that is essential in the field, and part of the process of converting architectural drawings to a finished product.
The board foot totals are also left out in the student package lumber list, allowing the students to calculate and total the board foot amount in the timber frame. This is an opportunity to learn about board foot calculations and could be carried into an estimating assignment - costing the timber in different materials.

Timber Frame Dining Room Table
This is a set of wood working plans for a timber frame dining room table. Following the joinery style of traditional timber frame construction, this set of plans contains a timber list, front and side view, individual drawings of each piece, notes, and 3 perspective drawings helping to illustrate the wood connections. Built using traditional mortice and tenon joinery, this is a table we designed to withstand the abuse from traveling to trade shows; our table has been in and out of our truck several times, and the joinery has never loosened. We used white oak for the base and a reclaimed wood top, but you could use other wood species without any trouble.
